The Lamb Point is a flat and icy headland at the Lassiter Coast of Palmer Lands south of the Antarctic Peninsula . It forms the southern limit of the entrance to Howkins Inlet .
The headland was discovered from the air and photographed in December 1940 by participants in the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). Further aerial photographs were taken in 1947 by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948), which also carried out a survey on site in cooperation with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in the same year. The FIDS named the bay after the British meteorologist Hubert Horace Lamb (1913-1997), who made weather forecasts for the British whaling fleet on board the factory ship Balaena between 1946 and 1947 .
