Lambert Pietkin (* 22. June 1613 in Liege , † 16th September 1696 ) was an in Bishopric of Liege acting composer and organist of the Baroque .

Life

Trained at the Lambertus Cathedral in Liège , he took over the "small organ" there in 1630, and two years later he became organist on the main organ. In 1633 he temporarily replaced his godfather and teacher Léonard de Hodémont as Kapellmeister, since he was still too young for this position, the office was handed over to Pierre Probus (around 1600–1664). Pietkin followed him ten years later and held this position until his retirement in 1674.

Pietkin was ordained a priest in the Lambertus Cathedral and appointed chapelain impérial in 1642 . In 1663 he became a canon in the Saint-Materne chapter of the cathedral, where he rose to grand compteur in 1670 .

In the “Grand livre de Choeur de Saint Lambert” of 1645, consisting of 11 motets for 5 to 8 voices and in the Sacri concentus Op. 1 (Antwerp, 1648) composed in the tradition of the previous generation, here Pietkin proves to be a master of counterpoint . In his Sacri concentus Op. 3 he is open to newer trends, this collection of 32 motets for vocal parts with instrumental accompaniment, shows an Italian influence, some of the motets were praised by Sébastien de Brossard . He also composed two four-part church sonatas in which Corelli's style can be felt. His Op. 2 is mentioned in the church archives of Tongeren , Oudenaarde and Gent , but has so far been lost.
