The Borneo broadfin shark ( Lamiopsis tephrodes ) is a species of shark from the family of Requiem sharks (Carcharhinidae). It occurs in the western Pacific on the north and east coast of Kalimantan and is mainly found in the shallow sea area. The species was described in 1905 by the American zoologist Fowler , but later synonymous with the Lamiopsis temminckii , also described in 1905 . Recently, however, molecular biological analyzes have shown that there must be two Lamiopsis species.

Appearance and characteristics

The Borneo broad-fin shark reaches a body length of about 1.30 meters and is light slate-gray on the upper side, the belly region is whitish. The transition from gray to whitish color on the head is sudden and extends from the end of the mouth over the upper edge of the eyes to the upper end of the first cleft gill. The Borneo broad-fin shark is similar in habit to the broad-fin shark . As with this one, the two dorsal fins are almost the same size. An interdorsal ridge is missing. The broad-based pectoral fins give it its name. The head is broad, flattened and of medium length, there is no spray hole . The first three gill slits are the same size, the two following are slightly smaller.
