features

The holotype of Lamprologus lethops is only 2.6 cm long. The height of the holotype is 17.9% of the standard length . Like most Lamprologini , Lamprologus lethops has a cylindrical elongated body. The eyes are greatly reduced and overgrown by thick skin, the body without pigment and rosy. The head is flattened; the nostrils high, fleshy, and ending in a well-developed tube. Both jaws are covered with single-pointed teeth arranged in several rows. In both jaws there are six enlarged canines curved backwards. The gill rakes are thin, long and not studded with teeth. There are four pores of the sensory system on the lacrimal bone . The scaling of the sides of the body is irregular, i. H. the scales are not in clearly recognizable, parallel rows. The scaly area on the top of the head extends backwards far beyond the dorsal fin base. Supraneuralia are absent. The fin rays of the dorsal and anal fin increase in height towards the rear. Both are scaly and end in pointed filaments that reach to the rounded, mostly scaled caudal fin.
