The main route of the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad (ATSF) runs through Lamy. Originally it was intended that the railroad would pass through Santa Fe itself, but the civil engineers involved realized during the construction of the route that the hills surrounding Santa Fe made this route impractical, and the route was run through Lamy.
