Lamy is a town in Santa Fe County in the US state of New Mexico south of the city of Santa Fe .
The place does not have a municipal constitution, but is recognized as such for the purposes of the railway and the census . In 2000 the population was 137. The main route of the former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad (ATSF) runs through Lamy. Originally it was intended that the railroad would pass through Santa Fe itself, but the civil engineers involved realized during the construction of the route that the hills surrounding Santa Fe made this route impractical, and the route was run through Lamy. A branch from Lamy to Santa Fe was later built, making Lamy an important railway junction.
