The Landesheilanstalt Blankenhain was a psychiatric care facility in the city of Blankenhain in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

history

In 1840 the "Thuringian State Hospital" was founded. From this, the Blankenhain State Sanatorium developed, to which an agricultural enterprise, the state estate "Cracow", belonged.

time of the nationalsocialism

In the era of National Socialism which was T4 performed. 252 patients were transferred to Zschadraß in three transports on September 2, 23 and 24, 1940 . Brought further to Pirna-Sonnenstein , 228 patients were murdered there. 18 patients died in Zschadraß. With the transport of October 17, 1940, 78 patients were brought to Stadtroda . From this point on, patients were only in the “Krakow” facility. Of the patients who were transferred to Stadtroda, at least 18 died between October 29, 1940 and March 5, 1942.

The facility ended on March 31, 1941. The properties were taken over by the German Labor Front .

post war period

Various subsequent uses followed. Around 2005 the buildings were demolished. In 2013 a memorial was erected to commemorate the victims of euthanasia.
