The State Transport Office Brandenburg (LVA) was an authority for the administration of private and small railways in the province (Mark) Brandenburg .

In 1903, the provincial administration set up a small railroad department for the numerous private and small railways that were also built in the Prussian province of Brandenburg at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. She was supposed to take over all tasks that could be solved better together and work towards a later consolidation of the independent businesses. The province was financially involved in a number of railway companies.

All these tracks could z. B. use the central workshops in Brandenburg, Müncheberg and Perleberg and borrow replacement vehicles from other railways in the event of a locomotive failure.

These considerations intensified in the economic crisis of the post-war period, so that in 1920 the state traffic office of the province of Brandenburg was created. In 1923 it was given the legal form of a GmbH as a regional transport directorate. The company was changed to Landeseisenbahndirektion Brandenburg GmbH in 1931 . At that time, the LED was running 16 of the 40 private and light railways that existed in the province.

On January 1, 1934, the agency was reorganized again. It was now called Landesverkehrsamt Brandenburg - Railway Department of the High President of the Province of Mark Brandenburg (Administration of the Provincial Association). Its seat was moved from Berlin to Potsdam in 1939.

After the end of the Second World War, it was possible to combine all railways that did not belong to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in one administration, regardless of ownership. For this purpose, on October 1, 1946, the LVA was transformed into the General Directorate of the Provincial Railways of the Mark Brandenburg . In the following years all private railways were expropriated and on July 1, 1948, the other small railways were transferred to VVB Verkehr. As early as April 1, 1949, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over the management and usufruct of these railways. Thus the administration of the provincial railways could be dissolved.
