Swiss Confederations of Peace

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The land peace federations of Switzerland were peace agreements that brought about an end to conflicts in the old Confederation . Most of them did not emerge until the Reformation and confessionalization . Because of the fierce disputes, these were necessary to protect the unity of the Swiss Confederation.

In Switzerland , the four peace agreements with which the internal federal religious wars of 1529, 1531, 1656 and 1712 ended, are referred to as rural peace or peace alliances. The historians of the 16th century such as Heinrich Bullinger , Johannes Stumpf or Johannes Salat used this term primarily for the contract itself. In their view, the "land peace" was also the geographical area and at the same time the associated legal status. The resulting four treaties supplemented and modernized the legal situation that was given as a basis by the federal letters and thus influenced the Swiss Confederation from the Reformation to the Helvetic Revolution .
