Johannes Salat

Johannes Salat , also Hans Salat (*  1498 in Sursee ; † before October 23, 1561 in Freiburg im Üechtland ), was a Swiss court clerk , playwright and historian / chronicler . In 1538 he was the director of the Lucerne Easter Game .

Life

Johannes Salat, a rope maker like his father, lived in Lucerne from 1520 to 1540 . In six campaigns from 1522 to 1527 he participated mostly as a field clerk. Then he was also involved in the Kappel Wars. From 1531 he was a court clerk and also printed his first literary works, often with a high polemical and satirical potential. He also wrote several historical writings on behalf of the Catholic Old Places . In 1540 he lost his post for fraud. Afterwards he was a schoolmaster (1544–47), surgeon , alchemist and astrologer in Freiburg .

The estate of Hans Salat, including his diary , is in the Central and University Library in Lucerne .
