Heinrich Metzendorf's house at Ernst-Ludwig-Strasse 25 in Bensheim

The Landhaus Heinrich Metzendorf in Bensheim an der Bergstrasse is a residential building built by the architect Heinrich Metzendorf , in which he lived himself. The Art Nouveau building under monument protection at Ernst-Ludwig-Straße 25 is a cultural monument of particular cultural and regional historical value.

History and structure of the house

Around 1900 Heinrich Metzendorf had the house built for himself and his family in his typical country house style. It is a single-storey building with a gable end, with a high basement made of red exposed sandstone . The white, irregular grouting of the sandstones is particularly striking. The roof is designed as a steep hipped roof with beaver tail covering . The central entrance to the building is on the gable side . Above it is a shingled bay window on a wooden console. In the hipped roof is a dwarf house with a gable roof . To the south there is a large dwelling. In 1904 an annex with a round arch was built to the north. Individual sandstone elements show inconsistent ornamentation influenced by Art Nouveau.
