The Villa Eulennest is an upper-class residential building in Bensheim on the mountain road , Heidelberger Strasse 46. It was from 1898 to 1899 to draft Bensheimer architect Heinrich Metz village built for the family of the paper manufacturer Wilhelm Euler and stands as a cultural monument under monument protection .

architecture

In the architecture, the influences of the emerging Art Nouveau at the time of construction are already recognizable, which visibly influenced the house built in the style of historicism and led to new architectural solutions.

The two-story building has a picturesque, varied shape and is covered by steep, intersecting gable roofs. The base of the building is made of sandstone , the facades of the floors above are plastered. Most windows have sandstone jambs framed. The facade is partly wood shingled . The original interior of the villa was also designed by Metzendorf.

The Villa Eulennest stood empty from 1994 and its existence was in danger.

From 2010 to 2012, the villa was renovated by the Darmstadt architect Karl Schubert after it was acquired by a local entrepreneurial family on their behalf and - with the removal of several conversions in the meantime - it was almost restored to its original condition. With this restoration it has become a “gem” of Bensheim.
