Farmer (Wernigerode)

The Landmann is a forest area southwest of Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains , after which u. a. also the Landmannklippe is named.

history

Originally this area belonged to the Reichsbannforst , then the Counts of Wernigerode are enfeoffed with it by the German emperors and kings. Like every ruling dynasty, they tried to expand their influence and round off the territory of their county. In the Harz foreland they owned property in various villages at the foot of the Huys. However, these villages belonged to the county district of the Counts of Regenstein. With a clever move, the Counts of Wernigerode tried to bind the subjects of these villages closer to themselves by granting the local farmers rights to use wood in their Harz forests. The Hadebergeberg was named in 1253 and is still known today under the name Heudeberberg and extends south of the former Himmelpforten monastery (Harz) . The village of Heudeber in Regenstein had rights to use wood here. The Counts of Wernigerode granted other villages such rights in the woods to the right and left of the Holtemme and in the Drängetal. In addition to Heudeber, Reddeber, Danstedt, Ströbeck, Athenstedt, Aspenstedt, Sargstedt and Runstedt were among them. These communities had certain permissions in a demarcated forest area, for which the expression eight word emerged . On May 6, 1867, the rights of this former medieval forest cooperative expired.
