description

The landscape protection area of the Brilon plateau is an area of the Brilon limestone plateau characterized by its expanse and openness. Despite the unfavorable climatic conditions, it is one of the most fertile areas in the Sauerland . The limestone subsoil also contributes to this. The flat areas are mainly used as arable land and grassland. In contrast to other areas in the Sauerland, arable use predominates in the LSG. Only smaller forest areas belong to the LSG. Numerous wind turbines have been built in the protected area since the 1990s . To the north-east of Radlinghausen there is a large slurry tank that is also used for slurry tourism from the Münsterland and East Westphalia.

Protection purpose

The LSG was designed to preserve the peculiar landscape character of the Brilon plateau in the mountains; To secure the efficiency of the ecosystem against interventions; to supplement the areas of the natural area that are more strictly protected by designation as a nature reserve as buffer areas.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the Hochsauerlandkreis, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry, the public supply of electricity, gas, telecommunications services, heat and water, wastewater management or an existing adjacent commercial operation are excluded from the ban ( Section 35 (1) No. 1 and 2 of the Building Code ). The construction of wind turbines and hydropower plants is also permitted with a building permit.
