The lean grassland landscape protection area on the Ruhr and Valme has been designated as type C LSG, meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland in the municipality of Bestwig.

The LSG consists of four sub-areas that are far apart. According to the landscape plan, these areas were combined to form a LSG because it is the only lean grassland areas in the municipality that are legally protected biotopes according to § 30 BNatSchG as lean grassland areas. A part of the area lies on the western edge of the village of Ramsbeck . The second area is in the Valme valley on the southern edge of the village of Heringhausen . The third sub-area is north of Bestwig and the Ruhr . The fourth sub-area is north of Nuttlar or south of federal motorway 46 .

Protection regulations

As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the Bestwig landscape planning area, this LSG prohibits the conversion of grassland and fallow grassland into arable land or other forms of use. First afforestation and the creation of Christmas tree crops is prohibited. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of extended care changes , a minimum distance of five meters from the central water bed must be maintained.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to complement the nature reserve designation of Bestwig to create an open-land biotope network system so that animals and plants can keep migration and spreading opportunities, and the preservation of the occurrence of protected bird species and the protection of species-rich plant communities.
