The landscape protection area Lobau or Obere Lobau is located in the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt , on the eastern edge of Vienna .
Location and landscape
The Obere Lobau is part of the Lobau , an wetland on the left , northern bank of the Danube , downstream from Vienna.
The landscape protection area extends from the banks of the Danube, where only the Donaustadt power station is left out, to the south-east bypass (A23) node Kaisermühlen in the north-west, close to the center of Aspern , and the Eßlinger ford in the east . It includes the old arms of Schilloch / Alte Naufahrt and Mühlwasser , in between the settlement areas around Maschanzkagrund, Schierlinghaufen and Bieberhaufen are left out.
It has about 461 acres . The area was designated with the Lobau Ordinance in 1978.
The protection goal is to protect the landscape and the budget . Down the Danube, adjacent to the Oberleitner Wasser , begins the Donau-Auen National Park ( NP 1996 ), which is also designated as a biosphere park and nature reserve (Untere) Lobau ( AUS03 , NSG 32/1978 ). The landscape protection area does not belong to the national park, but partly to the biosphere park, and forms a buffer zone (outer zone) to the city, as is usual for such protection categories. The designation has slowed down further urbanization of the area.
