The nature reserve source region with tributaries and upper reaches of the Marpe around Obermarpe with 32.6  hectares is located in the municipality of Eslohe . The area was in 2008 by the council of Hochsauerlandkreises with the landscape plan Eslohe as a conservation area designated (LSG). The LSG was designated as a type C LSG, meadow valleys, protection of significant extensive grasslands. In the municipality of Eslohe there is also a type A LSG, general landscape protection , 35 type B landscape protection areas, open land and cultural landscape protection and 42 others of type C. The LSG is part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park and until 2015 the Homert nature park . The LSG consists of three sub-areas.

description

In the LSG there is a meadow valley with the source region of the Marpebach around Obermarpe . Near-natural ponds, a stream dam and a spring dam have been created in the spring areas. The spring rivulets unite to the east of the Obermarpe location to form the Marpe. The spring rivulets and the stream have natural streams. There are several wet grassland areas in the LSG, some of which have been abandoned.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to maintain, supplement and optimize a grassland biotope network system in the floodplains and the lean grassland communities in the nature reserves , so that animals and plants can keep migrating and spreading, and the preservation of the occurrence of protected bird species and the protection of species-rich plant communities. In addition, the landscape plan lists: In addition to securing the high ecological value and promoting the given potential, the determination is made with the aim of preserving the loosening and landscape-enhancing open land area in the seldom extensive open, but landscape-typical spring basin.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the municipality, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue special permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the Eslohe landscape planning area, this LSG prohibits the conversion of grassland and fallow land into arable land or other forms of use. First afforestation and the creation of Christmas tree crops is prohibited. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of extended care changes , a minimum distance of five meters from the central water bed must be maintained.

As in all type B and type C landscape planning areas in the municipality, there is a requirement to keep the LSG free from forest cover through agricultural use or through maintenance measures.
