The landscape protection area Sorpewiesen Lange Erlen with an area of 22.9  hectares is located southwest of Hachen in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) with an area of 15.87 hectares for the first time in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerland district with the name Sorpewiesen Erlenkamp landscape protection area south of Tiefenhagen . When the Sundern landscape plan was reorganized, the LSG was re-identified and enlarged with a new name. The LSG was designated as a type C landscape protection area , meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland. Almost everywhere the LSG borders directly on the settlement area of Hachen and Tiefenhagen . The Erlenkamp nature reserve borders directly in the south . The LSG is part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park .

description

The LSG comprises grassland areas, partly wet, partly poor extensive grassland areas, and areas of Röhr and Sorpe . In the LSG the Sorpe flows into the Röhr.

Dismantling and renaturation measures

In 2014, hydraulic engineering dismantling and renaturation measures were carried out in the LSG as part of the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive . The project “Water development of Röhr and Sorpe taking into account the flood situation in Sundern-Hachen” cost 800,000 euros. 90 percent of the funding came from state and EU funds, while the city paid 80,000 euros. The canalized Sorpe and Röhr have been unleashed and are now meandering again. The course of the Sorpe was lengthened from 660 m to about 1400 m in length and the tube section lengthened from about 950 m to 1300 m. The now strongly twisted, significantly flatter and wider river beds can spread faster into the adjoining floodplain during floods and form a natural retention area for flood protection. New meanders are also being created for the area of the tube, so that here too there is a considerable lengthening of the run. At the confluence of the two rivers there is an estuary delta that develops dynamically.

In the summer of 2018, 4,2000 meters of fences were built in the renaturation area. All year round grazing with Dexter cattle began on three areas .

Protection purpose

The designation was made to secure and maintain the natural suitability for recreation and the efficiency of the natural balance against the diverse civilizational demands on nature and landscape. The LSG serves to supplement or buffer zone function of the more strictly protected parts of this planning area by protecting their surroundings from influences that could reduce the outstanding value of these nature reserves and protected objects and ensuring the coherence and implementation of the European nature reserve system Natura 2000 .

Legal regulations

As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the urban area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue exceptional permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Sundern, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures . Grassland and fallow grassland may not be converted into arable land or other uses.
