The Stroot landscape protection area is a landscape protection area in the Wittmund district of the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG WTM 00014. As the lower nature conservation authority, the district of Wittmund is responsible for the area.

Description of the area

The protected landscape area, designated in 1965, covers an area of 20.4 square kilometers and is located west of the center of Friedeburg .

The name "Stroot" is Low German and means swamp bushes. It was first mentioned in 1493 by Eggerik Beninga as up den stroet . A sheep farm was operated in today's forest area until 1808.

Protection purpose

The general purpose of protection is the "avoidance of damage to the forest ecosystem, impairment of the enjoyment of nature or the disfigurement of the landscape". To achieve this, the county wants the softwood inventories by deciduous forest formations with kinds of potential natural vegetation (wet to dry oak n- Book forest with transitions to Birch Oak Forest ) replaced. The district sees the implementation of the “Long-term ecological forest development” program as a further component.
