Gustav Godeffroy country house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The country estate Gustav Godeffroy was called Beausite and was a representative residential building on a no longer existing side street of the Elbchaussee in Hamburg-Blankenese .

1855 was Gustav Godeffroy of Auguste de Meuron at the end of the deer park a castle-like estate in the neo-Gothic building style. The house corresponded to the zeitgeist of the time. Cornices and balustrades on the Elbe side made it appear as a knight's castle. The interior was designed by Ludovicus Piglhein . Above the entrance to the Elbchaussee was the Godeffroy coat of arms with a falcon in the escutcheon . In 1893 the heirs sold the building to the Hamburg consul Timoleon Ludovic Pagenstecher . He sold it to Otto Traun in 1906. He lived in the house all year round. During the summer months, his father Senator Heinrich Traun and his brother Friedrich Traun also lived with him in the house. In 1913 the property was resold and divided. Eduard Pulvermann acquired a small part of the property . The part with the building was sold to the coal merchant and shipowner Bernhard Blumenfeld - Erik Blumenfeld's grandfather . In 1935 the Beausite building was demolished.

Also in neo-Gothic style, the merchant and consul Gustav Wilhelm Schiller (1803–1870) had a country house designed in Neumühlen by the English architect Georges Giles, who was a nephew of Francis Giles (1787–1842), which after completion the name "Schillerburg" became known. His brother Wilhelm Theodor Schiller had a country house built by de Meuron around 1861/62.
