The Hirschpark is a park in the Hamburg district of Nienstedten .

history

The history of the area and the area in which the deer park is located can be traced back for a long time, as can be read from the authors Lappenberg and Ehrenberg. The merchant Jean Cesar Godeffroy (1742–1818) acquired the property in October 1786 from the estate of Berend Johann Rodde . He was a merchant in Reval and traded from and with Russia. He had a 7 / 4 yard by Peter Diedrich Tonnies and 1 1 / 2 to bought by Heitmann and Eggerstedtstraße. It was the largest estate in the area at the time.

The park, which was then called "Godeffroy's Park", has been redesigned several times over the years. Parts such as the French-style show garden date from around 1855, the four-row avenue of lime trees, some solitary trees such as pedunculate oak and sycamore maple and exotic plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons are decades older and have been preserved to this day. The fallow deer gate, from which the park derives its current name “Deer Park”, was created by Johan Cesar Godeffroy around 1860. It has been preserved and fallow deer , waterfowl and peacocks can be seen.

In 1890 the park and building were sold to the merchant Ernst August Wriedt. At that time people spoke of "Wiredt's Park". In 1924 the municipality of Blankenese acquired the land and in 1927 the city of Altona opened it to the public. With the incorporation of Altona, the Hirschpark became the property of the City of Hamburg in 1938.

The classicist country house JC Godeffroy by the Danish architect Christian Frederik Hansen and the thatched cavalier's house, built around 1800 , in which Hans Henny Jahnn lived from 1950 until his death in 1959 and which is now popular as the Witthüs inn , have been preserved to this day. (A painting of the building by Max Liebermann was also created.) A plaque with a relief at Witthüs and a boulder in the park are reminiscent of Hans Henny Jahnn .
