Live and act

Achille Leclère's student came to Hamburg shortly after the great fire in 1842 and settled there as an architect. As a result of this catastrophe, he immediately received many - private and municipal - commissions.

On May 12, 1848, he was granted the citizenship of Hamburg that he had applied for in 1845 . Meuron worked in Hamburg until 1868; Among other things, several buildings were built in collaboration with his colleague Franz Georg Stammann . In 1858 Martin Haller gained his first practical experience in his office. The buildings designed by Meuron included the first construction of the Thalia Theater , buildings on Jungfernstieg , in the districts of Eppendorf and Uhlenhorst, and country houses on the Elbe. As one of the stately Mecklenburg manors, he built the manor on Gut Varchentin in 1847 on behalf of the Hamburg merchant Jenisch . In the summer of 1868, Meuron retired from the business and spent the rest of his life in his hometown of Neuchâtel.
