Achille Leclère , actually Achille François René Leclère (born October 29, 1785 in Paris ; † December 23, 1853 ibid) was a French architect.

Live and act

Leclère first studied at the École polytechnique ( Grande école ) with Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand ; later he moved to the workshop of Charles Percier . With his help he was able to participate in several tenders and won various prizes in 1806 and 1808.

In November 1808 Leclère went to Rome with François Mazois to the Villa Medici ; this stay was part of his scholarship from the Académie de France à Rome . In 1809 Leclère studied in Rome, but made extensive study trips to Naples (1810) and Tuscany (1811). From 1812 he worked in Rome on the restoration of Agrippa's pantheon .

In 1814 Leclère returned to France. He settled in his hometown the following year and opened a studio there. During the restoration he worked on the castles of Banville , Monthuchet and Verneuil . With this work he was able to make a name for himself and on November 5, 1818 he was appointed to the examination board of the École d'architecture.

In 1820 Leclère designed a memorial for General Charles de Bonchamps in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil ( Maine-et-Loire department ). In 1823 he worked on the work of the parish church of Notre-Dame de-Lorette ( 9th arrondissement ). Together with the architect Jean-Baptiste Lepère , he modified the plans for the Vincent-de-Paul parish church ( 10th arrondissement ). He was also responsible for the tombs of Luigi Cherubini and Casimir Pierre Périer in the Père Lachaise cemetery .

In 1831 Leclère was admitted to the Académie des Beaux-Arts (Fauteuil 7) as the successor to Jacques Molinos . The following year he became an honorary member of the Conseil des bâtiments civils and was appointed inspector general there. In 1847 he was appointed archivist at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris .

Achille Leclère died on December 23, 1853 in Paris, where he found his final resting place.
