State Parliament (SBZ)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The state parliaments were the state parliaments of the states re-established in 1945 in the Soviet Zone and GDR from 1946 until the dissolution of the states in 1952. Only with reunification were the states restored and new state parliaments elected.

prehistory

In order to enable the rebuilding of the state order after the Second World War in the countries of the Soviet occupation zone in the sense of building socialism , advisory meetings were called in mid-1946 by the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD) .

According to the Potsdam Agreement of August 2, 1945, this Consultative Assembly was replaced in 1946 by elected parliaments.

elections

The first state elections took place on October 20, 1946. It was a semi-free election. The elections themselves were free and secret. However, the occupation authorities and the SED exerted considerable influence on the election campaign and the admission of parties and candidates.

The second state elections took place on October 15, 1950, one year after the GDR was founded. The elections were unfree. The deputies were determined on the basis of a single list of the National Front ; the “election results” were therefore essentially already determined beforehand.

resolution

As early as 1949, with the establishment of the GDR, the country's institutions largely lost their functions. In 1952, the federal states were completely dissolved as part of the administrative reform in the GDR and divided into 14 districts . The state parliaments were not involved in this dissolution. Your remaining tasks were transferred to the district days .
