Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Parliament (1946–1952)

The state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was the state parliament of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Soviet Zone and GDR from 1946 until the dissolution of the states in 1952 . In January 1947, the state was renamed Land Mecklenburg . The name of the Landtag was then Landtag Mecklenburg or Mecklenburgischer Landtag .

After the fall of the Wall , the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was re-established in 1990 and a new Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament was elected.

prehistory

In order to enable the rebuilding of the state order after the Second World War in the countries of the Soviet occupation zone , the Consultative Assembly was convened on June 13, 1946 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania by the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD) .

According to the Potsdam Agreement of August 2, 1945, this Consultative Assembly was replaced in 1946 by elected parliaments.

First term

The election for the first state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took place on October 20, 1946 as part of the state elections in the Soviet Zone in 1946 . The state parliament passed the constitution of the state of Mecklenburg of January 16, 1947, which contained provisions on the state parliament in Section III. In order to put the constitutional provisions in concrete terms, the state parliament also issued rules of procedure that stipulated essential regulations for its work.

The state parliament, as the highest constitutional organ u. a. the following tasks:

  • Election of the Prime Minister and confirmation of the ministers proposed by him

Second legislative term

The election for the second state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took place on October 15, 1950 as part of the state elections in the GDR in 1950 . These were not free elections. The deputies were determined on the basis of a single list of the National Front . As early as 1949, with the establishment of the GDR, the country's institutions largely lost their functions. In 1952 the country was dissolved as part of the administrative reform in the GDR and divided into the three districts of Neubrandenburg , Rostock and Schwerin . The state parliament was not involved in this dissolution. His remaining tasks were transferred to the district days .
