Landulf of Pisa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Landulf of Pisa (11th century; † October 25, 1079 ) was Bishop of Pisa from 1077 to 1079 .

Little information is available about Landulf of Pisa and his episcopate. He came from Milan , was on the papal side and was made bishop on the orders of Pope Gregory VII . He was first mentioned in a document on August 27, 1077 in a deed of donation from Margravine Mathilde von Canossa . On September 1, 1077 he is referred to as "electus" by Gregory VII in a letter to him. He was last attested in 1079 as a participant in the Synod of Lent in Rome. According to the descriptions of Gregory VII, he was elected bishop in return for canonical processes, but also because of the support of Mathilde von Canossa. Mathilde von Canossa made large donations to the Archdiocese of Pisa, which can be seen as proof of her favor with Landulf.
