Lane Chandler
Lane Chandler (real Robert Chandler Oakes ; born June 4, 1899 in South Dakota , † September 14, 1972 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .
Life
Chandler has often been compared to Gary Cooper , who actually has a number of parallels. However, Chandler never had a real chance to achieve the level of awareness and popularity of Cooper.
After attending Montana Wesleyan College, he worked as a bus driver in Yellowstone National Park . He found a job as a mechanic in Los Angeles, where he signed a contract with Paramount in 1927 . After several mini appearances he got a leading role in the silent film western The open range . In the following year he was prominently cast in a number of films. After Paramount chose Gary Cooper and split from Chandler, he found freelance acting jobs in independent productions that were cheaper to produce but gave him the opportunity to take on the lead roles. In 1930 he played in five western productions.
In 1931 he signed a deal with Willis Kent for a series of eight films that were solid B-goods . In 1934/1935 he became the Phantom Rider for six episodes of the series, which also played his last leading roles. From now on, he worked in many films as a supporting actor with, for example, in the movie The Man in the Iron Mask ( The Man in the Iron Mask ). From 1949 he also appeared in television series. He often worked with Cecil B. DeMille . His film list is hard to miss with almost 300 films and around 100 television episodes from various series.
In addition to acting, Chandler was involved in a metalworking operation and ranch.
