Long night of sport

The Long Night of Sports is an event that offers top-class and popular sports, as well as disabled and not yet known sports, the opportunity to present themselves to the public free of charge. Visitors have the opportunity to try out free of charge and to obtain information about the participating associations. The patronage is taken over by top athletes and politicians.

history

The premiere of the Long Night of Sports took place in Munich in 2006 for the World Cup after an event in 2005 failed due to a lack of sponsorship funds. A year later, the "SportSax" association took up the concept and organized a sports night in the cities of Dresden and Leipzig . In 2010, the Long Night of Sports went on tour in Germany for the first time under the patronage of Britta Steffen . The host cities were Erfurt , Halle , Dresden and Bochum .

In recent years the sports night has developed into a popular event. It had more than 280,000 visitors in 2010 and over 70 sports performances per city.

The Long Night of Sports is under the motto Sport in the heart of the city : Sport is the focus of this type of Long Night, the sports are presented on the streets and squares of the city center and invite the public to participate.
