Slowly

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alemannic term Langsamstig ([ ˈlɑŋˌsɑmʃtik ]) can be found in Switzerland. One meets this street and field name z. B. in Dietikon ZH , Dürrenäsch TG , Lenzburg AG , Lupfig AG, Niederdorf BL , Rupperswil AG, Seon AG. This expression can be found in the telephone directory based on the field names as "Lenzburg, Langsamstigstrasse", and as "Dietikon, im Langsamstig".

The origin of the name is not clear. The Swiss research project “Ortsnames.ch” (formerly: “Database of Swiss Name Books”) assumes “a long stretch of property that is directly related to a (one-off or recurring) event on a Saturday; the reed that was laboriously cut on a Saturday ”. Other interpretations say that "Slowest" as a hallway designation describes an area that "slowly climbs", i.e. slowly rises, or refer to the legend of a maid who fell asleep while turning hay on Saturday and only woke up the next day, believing it was there is still Saturday, so "slowest" (High German: "on the long Saturday").
