Laodike (daughter of Antiochus III.)
Laodike was a daughter of the Seleucid king Antiochus III. and his wife Laodike . Her father married her in 196 BC. BC with her brother and heir Antiochus . 193 BC She was appointed "archpriestess" of her mother in the Seleucid cult. Her daughter Nysa, who died in 172/171 BC. BC married Pharnakes I of Pontus , the Athenians erected an honorary inscription.
Perhaps the same Laodike married her second brother Seleucus IV after the early death of her brother husband (193 BC). This marriage resulted in a son Antiochus , who after the killing of his father in 175 BC. Was briefly king and then co-regent of his uncle Antiochus IV , until he was him 170 BC. Was murdered.
Now perhaps the same Laodica became the wife of her third brother and now the sole ruler Antiochus IV, to whom she gave birth to Antiochus V.
Some coins (from the year 175 BC) show the portrait of Laodike and her son by Seleucus IV; this makes her the first known Seleucid queen to be depicted on coins.
But there is insufficient evidence that the wives of the heir to the throne Antiochus, Seleucus IV and Antiochus IV were one and the same person.
