Laphroaig is a small town on the Scottish island of Islay and is therefore in the Council Area Argyll and Bute or the traditional Scottish county Argyllshire . It was built as a workers' settlement for the Laphroaig whiskey distillery on the south coast of the island near the Port Ellen ferry terminal . Laphroaig is connected to the road network by the A846 . Opposite Laphroaig is the small island of Texa .

Residents

The population of Laphroaig has been constant since 1841 relative to other communities on Islay. So there were 57 inhabitants in 1841, while there were 42 inhabitants in 1851. In 1961 there were finally 58 people again.

Surroundings

To the north of Laphroaig there was initially a standing stone with a height of 1.83 m. On closer inspection, however, it was found that this is part of a Stone Age cairn .
