Larabanga is a village in northwest Ghana and is located around 6 km south of Mole National Park in the West Gonja District of the Savannah region .

The Muslim village is known for its old mosque . According to a legend, the mosque of Larabanga was built in 1421. It contains a very old edition of the Koran . In any case, it is the oldest mosque in Ghana. Larabanga has been a settlement center of the Kamara since the 17th century at the latest .

In 2002 the mosque in Larabanga was placed on the list of the 100 most endangered cultural assets in the world by the World Monuments Fund .

The place is on the road that branches off south of Tamale from the main road to the west and continues to Wa .
