Larry Dickson

Larry Dickson (born September 8, 1938 in Marietta ) is a former American racing driver .

Career

Larry Dickson was one of the most successful USAC sprint car drivers in the history of this racing series. He achieved 43 victories and won the championship in 1968, 1970 and 1975. These years were marked by the constant duels between Dickson and Gary Bettenhausen , who won the championship in 1969 and 1971. Today this era is referred to as the “Gary and Larry Show” or the golden era of sprint cars.

From 1965 to 1981 Dickson drove 105 races in the USAC series and the successor championship, the CART series . Despite finishing in the top ten 44 times, he was denied a big win. Best place was second place in Springfield 1968.

He competed eight times in the Indianapolis 500 mile race . He made his debut in 1966 and drove his last race in 1981 when he finished eighteenth with a factory Penske . His best result was the ninth place in 1969 in a Vollstedt - Ford . He was also at the start at some selected events in NASCAR .

Dickson lives in Indianapolis and works as an investment advisor.
