Larry Wayne Gordon (* 8. July 1954 in Monroe , Louisiana ; † 25. June 1983 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American American football poker players on the position of the linebackers . He played for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL) for seven years - until his death .

Life

Larry Gordon played college football at Arizona State University . For the Sun Devils , he scored 131 tackles in the 1974 season and 150 tackles in 1975. The Miami Dolphins selected Gordon in the 1976 NFL Draft as 17th player in the first round. In his first season he played all games as a starter from the start .

Gordon collapsed from a rare heart disease while jogging in the desert near Laveen , Arizona on June 25, 1983 , and died about an hour later in a Phoenix hospital. He left a wife and two children. Gordon's brother Ira Gordon also played in the NFL: six years as a guard for the San Diego Chargers .
