Lars Hedegaard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lars Hedegaard (Jensen) (* 1942 in Horsens near Århus ) is a Danish historian, journalist and author.

Live and act

Hedegaard was a member of the Socialistisk Arbejderparti until 1982 . At the end of the 1980s he was editor-in-chief of the left-wing liberal daily Dagbladet Information , later he was a columnist for the conservative newspaper Berlingske Tidende . He still uses Marxist social analysis to this day. In 2004 he founded the Trykkefrihedsselskabet ( Society for Freedom of the Press ) as a counterpoint to the Danish PEN .

He criticizes the fact that the often banned organization Hizb ut-Tahrir , which, among other things, called for armed resistance against Scandinavian soldiers in Afghanistan , can continue to develop freely in Denmark. After Hedegaard believes the majority of representing imams in Denmark Islam as a ideology that with communism and Nazism is comparable. He also stood behind the Mohammed cartoons published in 2005 .

After he had an informal conversation with two journalists in December 2009, which was posted on the Internet the following day, he was reported by the head of the documentation og rådgivningscenteret Niels-Erik Hansen for sedition . In April 2012, he was acquitted at the Supreme Court because the interview was not intended for publication and therefore the offense of sedition was not fulfilled.

Assassination attempt

On February 5, 2013, a man disguised as a postman attempted an assassination attempt on him. He shot Hedegaard, but missed. The perpetrator managed to escape. Suspected of the act is the Danish-Lebanese Basil Hassan, who is said to have joined the terrorist organization “ Islamic State ” in Syria and is wanted with an international arrest warrant. Hassan had meanwhile been arrested in Turkey, but was later released, possibly as part of an exchange for hostages of the "Islamic State". Hassan is wanted by the USA as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist .
