The Larsen Channel is a 1.5 to 5 kilometer wide waterway between D'Urville Island and Joinville Island off the northeast end of the Antarctic Peninsula . The Larsen Canal was discovered in 1902 by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition under Otto Nordenskjöld and named after Carl Anton Larsen , the captain of the expedition ship Antarctica .
