Las Higueras is a village in northwest Argentina . It belongs to the department of Iruya in the province of Salta and is located at 1910 m altitude in the narrow valley gorge of the Iruya river , at the confluence of the rivers Nazareno (also called Poscaya or Río San Pedro ) and Higueras . 4 km north of the village is Zapallar , 4 km north-east the village Arpero and 4 km to the east the village Alfarcito .
Las Higueras has a school (escuela N ° 4170), an infirmary and a chapel and can be reached on foot or by mule from the village of Iruya, 20 km away , either through the river bed of the Iruya River or via a mountain path. During the dry season from May to October, it is also possible to travel through the river bed with off-road vehicles. The walk through the river bed takes about four hours, and about six hours over the mountain path.

On August 31, the festival takes place in honor of the patron saint, San Ramón .
