Lashblood is a black metal band founded as Lash in 2007 .

history

Lashblood was founded around 2007 by Silencer and RainDog, who plays Suicide on Deathmoor . Silencer first rehearsed as an unnamed one-man project after several attempts to play in bands failed. In an exchange with RainDog, he discovered common creative ideas, which led to the Lash project. In order to realize the ideas of the duo, the band line-up was completed with musicians from SS-18 and Deathmoore by 2009. The following year the group recorded a first self-titled demo. The demo was followed by the split , reduced to 99 copies - MC Nausea of Inner City with Deathmoore. After the release of the split MC, the musicians varied the line-up. As a result of the new band constellation and the increasing distance from the previously played style, the group renamed itself Lashblood. The debut album Philosophy of Self-Flagellation: Being and Nothing was created on the basis of material written in previous years.

The Philosophy of Self-Flagellation: Being and Nothing , published by Daemon Worship Productions and Stavropol Nekrodivizion Productions , contained new recordings of the three pieces presented on Nausea of Inner City as well as two previously unreleased songs. The following publications were always published in cooperation with Stavropol Nekrodivizion Productions. Svart Samler describes the label as a regional black metal conglomerate, whose central characters he and Sadist acted. What is common is the individually different satanic ideology of all musicians , beyond the various personal overlaps of the groups involved, which are also noticeable in the Lashblood constellation .

The Philosophy of Self-Flagellation: Being and Nothing was followed by the release of the EP Plasticine People in 2015 . The EP, which contained cover versions of Darkthrones Lifeless and Voivods Mercury in addition to three new original tracks, was positively received by critics. In particular, the use of a saxophone in a black metal context was praised. The second studio album Unbeing was released in cooperation with Aesthetic Death Records , the label that publishes Goatpsalm , another project by the guitarist Sadist. Unbeing gained international attention and was rated as moderate to positive.

style

Lashblood's music is known as avant-garde black metal. As influences on the style of the band from the group and the label Korova , Ved Buens Ende and Dødheimsgard are mentioned. In reviews, comparisons with Dødheimsgard and Arcturus are sought. The atmosphere of the music is "cold, dark and eerie", characterized by harsh violence and refers to a "world in which nobody would want to exist." Svart Samler, who even after leaving the group, is still responsible for most of the lyrics responsible, emphasizes an existential tenor that should be expressed in the music and the lyrics. Correspondingly, some of the texts refer to existentialist literature and are inspired by it.

According to Shrivatsan R. from the web magazine Transcending Obscurity, "cold old-school black metal" is the basis of the music, but it would be combined with ideas from progressive metal and jazz . The use of a saxophone is cited as a particularly striking and atypical element of music. This would come into its own particularly in the calm “Noir” passages, which pessimistically contrast with the otherwise harsh Black Metal. In addition, the gloomy atmosphere would be supported by disharmonies and background noises. The vocals are presented in a guttural way, as is typical of the genre, and vary between growling and screaming . The guitar playing mainly uses repetitive riffing . The rhythm and tempo of the music, on the other hand, are considered varied.
