Hajo von Nesse , also Hajo von Nessen (born September 23, 1562 in Nesse , East Frisia , † March 28, 1620 in Schwerin ), was a German jurist , university professor and Mecklenburg Chancellor.

Life

Hajo von Nesse came from the East Frisian aristocratic family Aldringa von Nesse and was a son of Anton Hajo von Nesse, landowner and Drost in Aurich , and his wife Gesa (Gesche) Westerhausen. He was taught in Aurich by Johannes Ligarius , the Lutheran court preacher of the Count of East Frisia Edzard II, together with his son Enno III. In 1582 he began to study law at the University of Rostock . After further studies from December 1585 at the University of Helmstedt followed on October 1, 1590 in Rostock, the doctorate of law (JUD). In 1593 he was appointed ducal associate professor of law at the law faculty, and in 1602 he was appointed full professor of law / Pandects as the successor to the late Johannes Albinus . In 1606 and 1609/10 he was dean of the law faculty.

In addition, he was already starting in 1590 successively Chancellor of Mecklenburg Duke Ulrich and Sigismund August , the widowed Duchess Sophie and from 1595 in Vormundschaftsrat the heir to the Duchy of Mecklenburg, Adolf Frederick I and Johann Albrecht II. Also at the Second Mecklenburg main land partition in Mecklenburg Schwerin (Adolf Friedrich I.) and Mecklenburg-Güstrow (Johann Albrecht II.) He was involved in 1621.

In the role of Chancellor of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, he was then responsible for general state administration. As Chancellor, he had a variety of tasks to cope with, so he was supposed to take care of the chamber court and other official matters as well as Reich and district affairs. In addition, he had to attend the court, carry out visitations inside and go on legation trips. From his pen came court and chancellery regulations. His imperious nature often led to conflicts, both with the estates and with Duke Adolf Friedrich I, as can be seen from his diaries.

Hajo von Nesse married Anna Schönermarck (1577–1652) in 1592, the daughter of the ducal councilor and land rent master Joachim Schönermarck (1542–1600) and his wife Anna Kassebohm (1545–1593). Her brother was Joachim Schönermarck , Dr. iur. utr., professor at the institutions in Rostock and assessor at the court and regional court and at the consistory. The marriage had ten children. After Hajo von Nesse's death, the body was transferred to Rostock for burial. The burial took place on April 12, 1620, the funeral speech was given by Thomas Lindemann , the rector of the university.
