Life

He ruled since April 16, 1608, under the tutelage of Duke Karl I , together with his brother Adolf Friedrich I in the Schwerin region , and followed his guardian on July 9, 1611 in the Güstrow region . During the second division of Mecklenburg , he was granted sole regency in Mecklenburg-Güstrow. In 1617 he converted to the Protestant denomination.

Both brothers joined the defensive alliance of the Lower Saxony district estates in 1623, tried to be neutral during the war, but secretly supported the Danish troops of King Christian IV , and were therefore treated as enemies by the imperial under Tilly after the victory at Lutter .
