Last Exile is a 26-part anime series by the Gonzo studio from 2003. The series falls into the genres of adventure , fantasy and steampunk .
world
The action takes place in the fictional world Prestale , an artificial planetary system consisting of the planets Anatoray and Dysis . Prestale and several other similar systems were created as a haven for humankind when the earth had to be evacuated due to global warming. The plan was that once the earth had sufficiently recovered, humans would return to Earth using giant spaceships called Exiles.
The civilizations on Anatoray and Dysis are on a par with the Industrial Revolution , closely monitored by the more technologically advanced guild , which has moved from its original administrative function towards tyranny. A special feature of this world is Claudia , a valuable glowing mineral that enables the operation of wingless aircraft that are heavier than air.
Due to malfunctions in the weather control system, Dysis is getting colder and colder while Anatoray is under water. The residents of Dysis flee to Anatoray, which leads to military conflict.
action
The two young van ship pilots and message couriers Claus Valca and Lavie Head find themselves on the front lines of war through an ordinary assignment. A little later they find a dying colleague who asks them to bring his cargo - a young girl named Alvis Hamilton - to their destination. From then on, the two suddenly become the target of the guild, which seems to be interested in Alvis. After a chase in which a guild swarm ship destroyed their house and almost also their van ship, they finally handed Alvis over to the notorious Alex Row, the captain and commander of the mercenary ship Silvana. He leads a private campaign of revenge against the guild and its leader Maestro Delphine, who killed his fiancée many years ago. Row knows of the guild's source of power, a formidable artifact known as the Last Exile.
The fight against the guild leads the two pilots between the fronts of Dysis and Anatoray and finally into the Great Stream, a huge swirl of clouds and the secret headquarters of the guild. In this way, the second captain of the Sylvana turns out to be the princess and heir to the throne of the Anatoray and Maestro Delphine as the murderess of Claus' and Lavie's fathers. A battle between the united nations of Prestales and the guild finally breaks out over the frozen land of the Dysis. Alex Row and Delphine lose their lives and the guild's power is shattered. Finally, with the help of Alvis Hamilton, exile is activated. It reveals itself to the population of Prestale as an interstellar starship, with which their ancestors came from Earth to Prestale to settle here. With the help of the ship, Klaus and Lavie travel into space, from where they view their hourglass-shaped home planet.
Characters
- Claus Valca struggles with his partner Lavie as a Vanship courier after their fathers lost their lives trying to cross the Great River. 15 year old Claus grew up flying on Vanships and is an excellent pilot despite his young age. In order to improve further, he takes part in public races.
- Lavie Head is the navigator and technician for Claus, just as her father was once navigator and technician for Claus father. The 15-year-old also looks after Claus, takes care of the food and takes care of new courier orders.
- Alex Row is the captain of the Silvana and holds the rank of colonel. Although he has a rank in the army of Anatoray, he does not belong to the professional army. This is allowed because in this world the nobility has its own army. He is not under the command of the army and can therefore make completely independent decisions and choose targets. He has already achieved numerous successes and military honors. With the rewards that he receives for his services, he covers the maintenance of the people under him and maintains his own ship. His troops have an extremely bad reputation among the common nobility. Alex is very reserved and does not reveal his emotions. This exceptionally talented man has boldness, determination, and leadership, which is why he is extremely well respected.
