Lantern beater (Neoscopelidae) are a family of small deep-sea fish . They live in the Atlantic , Pacific and Indian Oceans at greater depths between 250 and 1400 meters. Almost nothing is known about the way of life of the lantern tongers.

features

Lantern flippers get 20 to 30 centimeters long. They have a laterally compressed body with original round scales . Only Solivomer arenidens has ridge scales. The anal fin begins behind the end of the dorsal fin . The genus Neoscopelus has oval luminous organs along the underside from the head to the base of the caudal fin and on the edge of the tongue , the other genera have no photophores. The genus Scopelengys has no swim bladder , very small eyes and only weak muscles. Like many other deep-sea fish, it seems to have a very sluggish lifestyle.

There are three genera with a total of six species.
