Coordinates: 41 ° 14 ′  S , 146 ° 25 ′  E The Latrobe Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 550 km² and has about 10,000 inhabitants (2016).

Latrobe in the middle of the north coast of the Tasmanian island about 200 kilometers north of the capital Hobart . The area consists of 13 hamlets and towns: Bakers Beach, Harford, Hawley Beach, Latrobe, Moriarty, Northdown, Port Sorell , Sassafras, Shearwater, Squeaking Point, Tarleton, Thirlstane and Wesley Vale. The seat of the council is in the place Latrobe in the west of the LGA, where about 3500 inhabitants live (2016).

The Latrobe Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Latrobe is not divided into districts.
