Laura J Gerlach (* July 23, 1980 in Frankfurt am Main ) lives as a freelance artist and photographer in Paris, New York and Frankfurt am Main.

life and work

Laura J Gerlach has been working as a freelance photographer internationally since 2003, in Germany among others for the Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt , the Nippon Connection film festival , the Welt Kompakt, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Journal Frankfurt . Her master's degree in art history at the Goethe University Frankfurt in 2006 and a diploma in interior design at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences in 2010 was followed by various photo assistants with Martin Schoeller and Udo Spreizenbarth, and in 2010/2011 a degree at the ICP - International Center of Photography , New York, where she studied with Andrea Blanch , Alice O'Malley and James Wojcik. Her photographic subjects are almost exclusively documentary and serial, they deal with spaces and atmosphere and the meaning for the individual in the respective space. Psychological and social aspects are incorporated as well as subtle elements of sphere, light effect and dimension. The interior serves as a narrative medium and evidence store for the protagonists present or absent.
