Laure Prouvost (2010)

Laure Prouvost (* 1978 in Croix , Nord Département ) is a French filmmaker and artist. She received the prestigious Turner Prize in 2013 . In 2019 she will represent France at the Venice Biennale .

life and work

Born near Lille in France , Prouvost went to a local school with a focus on art and studied from 1999 to 2002 at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design at the University of the Arts London . From 2007 to 2010 she continued her studies at Goldsmiths College of the University of London continued.

Laure Prouvost works as a video and multimedia artist . In 2010 her short film Monologue was awarded a main prize at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, with the jury awarding it, among other things, “subversive humor”. In 2011 she again received a main prize at the Oberhausen Festival for her film The Artist .

After Prouvost was able to exhibit at Tate Britain for the first time in 2010 , she was among the candidates for the Turner Prize in 2013. At the exhibition of the candidates in Derry , Northern Ireland , she showed the video installation Wantee , which depicts a fictional tea ceremony between the German artist Kurt Schwitters and her grandfather. The jury recognized the work as "outstanding and moving" and recognized it with the award.

The artist has one daughter and lives in London.
