Laurence Payne

Laurence Payne (born June 5, 1919 in London , † February 23, 2009 there ) was a British actor .

Life

Payne, who grew up without a father and in a Methodist upbringing, was a permanent member of the Old Vic Theater on tours through England during World War II , and also through Germany and Australia after the war, later worked with Peter Brook on his Romeo and Juliet production and interpreted the Hamlet at the Embassy Theater .

His television career began in 1954 with the role of d'Artagnan in a multi-part television series and peaked as the sexton Blake in 60 parts of the detective stories set in the 1920s. He was also seen in several episodes in Doctor Who .

Payne worked in films only occasionally, but regularly; Ben Hur belongs to his works as well as Circus of the Vampires and Summer of the Cursed . His theater career also ended in the 1970s.

In addition to acting, Payne published eleven crime novels as a writer and was known as a painter and worked for the radio until the 1990s.

He was married to colleagues Sheila Burrell and Pamela Alan ; both marriages failed. His third wife was the horse journalist Judith Draper since 1974.
