Sheila Burrell
Sheila Burrell (born May 9, 1922 in Blackheath , London , † July 19, 2011 in Kingston upon Thames ) was a British actress .
Life
Burrell made her debut after her acting training in The Patsy in 1942, a play for troop entertainment. She first appeared in London in 1944, and later in Liverpool. Peter Brook engaged her several times, beginning with the resounding success of Dark of the moon in 1949, and made her roles possible primarily in contemporary pieces. In 1963 she gained notoriety in another way: in The Severed Head she was the first actress in her home country to show her breasts on stage. She was also seen in numerous stage roles in the 1970s, for example with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theater . Her career-spanning unpredictability of roles and plays was praised, for example the concentration on supporting roles in her time with the Actors Company in the middle of the decade or in the 1980s the interpretations in works by Louise Page , Eugène Ionesco and Eugene O'Neill .
Burrell had also taken on film roles since 1949, often for Hammer Studios , but also for Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre in 1996. On television, she took on guest roles in popular series and was cast in costume dramas. She also took advantage of offers for commercials.
Burrell was married to actor and writer Laurence Payne for the first time and to photographer David Sim for a second marriage.
