Laurence Pithie (born July 17, 2002 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand cyclist who is active on the road and track .

Athletic career

In 2016 Laurence Pithie became the New Zealand cross-country champion . He shifted his sporting focus to cycling and was New Zealand youth champion in the individual time trial in 2018 . In the following year he was able to achieve impressive successes at international level in track cycling: At the Junior Oceania Championships, he won silver in individual and team pursuits as well as in the points race, in the scratch he was third. At the junior world championships , Pithie was world champion in the Omnium and with Kiaan Watts in the two-man team . In the same year he became New Zealand's elite champion in the criterion on the road, and in 2020 he won the elite titles in two-man team driving and in the team pursuit.

Miscellaneous

Laurence Pithie is a student at Christchurch Boys' High School , where sport plays a major role and which has produced several successful athletes.

In 2019, Pithie was awarded the Zonta Award for special athletic achievements by schoolchildren. In 2020 he was nominated for the Sky Sport Emerging Talent (New Zealand Young Athlete of the Year).
