Laurent Aké Assi

Laurent Aké Assi (born August 10, 1931 in Agboville , † January 14, 2014 in Abidjan ) was an Ivorian botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Aké Assi ".

Life

Growing up as the son of a forester, he came into contact with the French botanist George Marie Mangenot as a field assistant and interpreter . After studying in Paris at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle and at the Sorbonne , he returned to Ivory Coast in 1961 after defending his doctoral thesis. He taught botany at the Ecole forestière du Banco d'Abidjan , founded the botanical garden of the Université de Cocody and the herbarium of the Center National Floristique . His "Flore de la Côte d'Ivoire" was published in 2001 and 2002 in two volumes.

Taxa named after Aké Assi

The genus Akeassia (Asteraceae), the types borassus akeassii (Arecaceae) Crotonogynopsis akeassii (Euphorbiaceae), Pandanus akeassii (Pandanaceae) Pavetta akeassii (Rubiaceae), Trist Emma akeassii (Melastomataceae) and the subspecies Amorphophallus abyssinicus subsp. akeassii (Araceae) and the variety Salacia columna var. akeassii are named after Laurent Aké Assi.
