Laurent Stalder

Laurent Stalder (* 1970 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss architect and university professor.

Life

After studying architecture at the ETH Zurich , which he graduated with a diploma in 1996, he received a scholarship from the Swiss Institute for Egyptian Building Research and Archeology in Cairo in 1996 and 1997 . From 1997 to 2001 Stalder was an assistant at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) in the Architecture Department at ETH Zurich. There he did his doctorate on Hermann Muthesius in 2002 . In the same year he was appointed Assistant Professor of Architectural History at the Laval University in Québec , Canada . In 2006 he returned to the gta institute at ETH Zurich as an assistant professor for architectural theory. Since 2011 he has held the professorship for architectural theory there. In 2009 he was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.

In 2016 Laurent Stalder became head of the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zurich.

Memberships

Laurent Stalder is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel and the Werner Oechslin Library Foundation in Einsiedeln. He is Scientific Advisory Board member of the Jaap Bakema Study Center in Rotterdam and the Laboratoire Infrastructure, Architecture, Territoire (LIAT) of ENSA Paris-Malaquais.
