Laurentius II of Lebus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laurentius (German also Lorenz II .; D. 1232 or 1233 ) was Bishop of Lebus from 1209 to 1232.

Life

Laurentius was first mentioned in 1209 when he was present at the baptism of a son of the Silesian Duke Henry the Bearded . In the following years he was mentioned as a witness several times in its documents. Around the year 1219 he went with him and Duke Konrad of Mazovia to the crusade against the Prussians .

Bishop Laurentius documented several times for the Silesian Cistercian monasteries Leubus and Trebnitz , the Augustinian canon monastery in Naumburg am Bober as well as for the Templar order , in which he issued tithes in their possessions in the diocese of Lebus.

Bishop Laurentius was last mentioned in a document on October 31, 1232. Since his successor Heinrich I took office in 1233, Laurentius must have died beforehand.

The alleged date of death March 9, 1233 in the older literature is based on a mixture of dates with those of a previous Bishop Laurentius (I) , whose was commemorated on March 9 in the Cistercian monastery Leubus.
